As the EU is setting up a summit in Armenia right before the parliamentary election, we scrutinise Brussels' support for an authoritarian administration, and question why it doesn't encourage a free and fair election instead. Read our White Paper: freekarapetyan.com/wp-conten…

The Ukrainian Constitution still guarantees “free development, use, and protection” of Russian language and other minority languages in UKR. First, I heard ppl say that “nobody’s persecuting RU lang in UKR,” now the argument is that it’s a “colonial lang anyway, so it’s alright”
Ukraine has removed Russian from a European minority-language treaty. Zelensky signed the bill, and Kyiv frames the move as fulfilling its European obligations while protecting national security. meduza.io/en/news/2026/06/13…

The "Prosperous Armenia" Party has called on supporters to gather outside the Central Electoral Commission as recounts at hundreds of polling stations approach their conclusion. "Our citizens are being deprived of their right to freely express their will, and this theft of votes must not go unanswered," the party said in a statement. The protest call comes after the CEC invalidated the results from polling stations 10/51 in Yerevan and 35/65 in Meghri, removing 213 votes cast for the "Prosperous Armenia" Party. The dispute unfolds as recounts continue at 555 polling stations across Armenia, representing nearly 28% of the country's 2,005 polling stations. The recount process is expected to conclude at 12:00 p.m. today. The party officially received 58,368 votes (3.996%), a result that the CEC's published figures place approximately 59 votes below the 4% threshold for parliamentary representation. #ArmVote26

A resident of the village of Kirants, Goar Vardanyan, was forced to leave her job after being made to submit a resignation "of her own free will." The reason was her public statement about the actual voting situation in the village.According to Vardanyan, the election results were secured by votes from military personnel and people previously unknown to local residents but who had been registered in Kirants. Her management demanded that she delete her Facebook post, but Goar refused. As a result, she was compelled to submit a resignation letter and leave her position.

"After the pre-election spending, the authorities are trying to replenish the budget deficit. All the expenditures the government made before the elections—handing out money left and right, awarding bonuses, increasing pensions, and making other campaign-related expenditures—now have to be compensated for somehow. The current pace of Armenia's economic growth is insufficient to replenish the state budget, so the authorities are resorting to other measures."— Aren Apikyan

Former Justice Minister Arpine Hovhannisyan has argued that Armenia’s Electoral Code does not stop at invalidating polling station results when violations may have affected the outcome of the vote. Citing Article 101 of the Electoral Code, Hovhannisyan noted that if the Central Electoral Commission concludes that violations could have influenced the results and that their consequences can be remedied, it must adopt a separate decision ordering a repeat vote at the affected polling stations. Under the law, such a repeat vote must be held within seven days of the CEC’s decision. Her remarks come after the CEC invalidated the results from polling stations 10/51 in Yerevan and 35/65 in Meghri. Hovhannisyan said two key issues now arise: If the CEC believes the violations were serious enough to affect the outcome, it must determine whether those consequences can be remedied through a repeat vote and adopt a separate decision accordingly. At the same time, she said it is unrealistic to expect the CEC to conclude that the violations were significant enough to justify invalidating the results of the entire parliamentary election. #ArmVote26

The Artur Osipyan case is not an isolated incident—it is the logical consequence of a broader erosion of democratic standards in Armenia. In our latest #DemocracyWatch article, Tigran Grigoryan argues that tolerating selective justice because today's targets are politically unpopular inevitably creates the conditions for arbitrary use of state power against anyone tomorrow. The broad public mobilization helped secure Osipyan's release and demonstrated that civil society, despite the crises of recent years, can—when willing—serve as a meaningful counterweight to the arbitrary exercise of state power and anti-democratic practices. But unless democratic principles are defended consistently—rather than selectively—Armenia will inevitably see new Artur Osipyans. civilnet.am/en/news/1012455?…
