Met with H.E. Governor Lomorukai of @TurkanaCountyKE to discuss ongoing efforts towards enhanced refugee management, including improved access to documentation and strengthened county and national coordination towards refugee inclusion and integration. It was encouraging to talk about practical steps and areas of collaboration with Kenya as it advances the SHIRIKA Plan. We also had the opportunity to discuss Swedish support in the areas of agriculture and climate resilience.

Thank you, Your Excellency. Sweden and Kenya share long‑standing and close relations. We remain committed to multilateral cooperation for peace and security, as well as increased trade and investment for the prosperity of our societies.
Hosted H.E. Håkan Åkesson, the Swedish Ambassador to Kenya for a courtesy call, where we reviewed over 60 years of strong Kenya–Sweden relations.
I called for an end to armed conflict, noting concern that some global peace guarantors are now active participants in war.
Sweden reaffirmed support for regional integration and a stronger, peaceful and democratic East African Community.
The Ambassador noted that over 40 Swedish companies are keen to invest in the country with some already established while I encouraged greater promotion of Kenya’s tourism potential.

Sweden is happy to have been pioneering the work on locally led climate action, all the way from the pilot phase in 2015 up to now. Currently, with a number of development partners onboard, this program covers all 47 counties in Kenya.
Leaders from Kenya’s national and county governments, development partners, civil society, Indigenous Peoples, and private sector actors are convening to discuss how to mobilize climate finance and strengthen locally led climate solutions.
