There's no good excuse for not fixing this. You shouldn't be a financial advisor if you don't want to communicate consistently and meaningfully with your clients.
I'm not sure I'll ever fully comprehend stats like these. Lack of communication is the #1 reason clients leave their advisors. And it's the #1 thing clients say can make for a better experience. SERIOUSLY??
