Now, after a war that he lost, Trump is going to sign onto a vastly inferior deal. The new deal is not even finalized yet, despite Trump hailing it as a massive victory. Final negotiations still need to be conducted, but for now it will extend the ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. J.D. Vance has admitted that Iran will be given $300 billion to rebuild their country if certain benchmarks are met. There's MAGA in a nutshell: wasting our money to kill people and blow up their homes, then spending more money to rebuild those homes. Absolutely nothing was accomplished by this war except the mass slaughter and immiseration of innocent people and the conflagration of our hard-earned tax dollars on the altar of the military-industrial complex. Iran will likely agree not to pursue nuclear weapons, which they were never doing in the first place according to our own intelligence agencies. Overall, Iran will emerge from this war more powerful, with direct control over the Strait of Hormuz, a massive influx of cash, and an unprecedented PR victory over the United States. Jeremy Bowen of the BBC described the war as "President Donald Trump's worst foreign policy blunder – so far." That said, this "deal," if indeed it holds, should be celebrated. Not because it's any kind of achievement, but because it's the least bad option on the table right now. Better for America to back down and leave Iran alone, than to continue a pointless, costly, global economy-destroying conflict. There is nothing to be gained at this point by further bloodshed. “I’m hopeful that bombing stops and ordinary people are no longer suffering as a consequence of the war,” said Obama. "In retrospect it's a reminder that on a lot of difficult foreign policy problems, the notion that we can just bully our way, or bomb our way, to solutions may sometimes seem appealing, but the fact of the matter is that taking the time to explore diplomacy and exhaust the possibilities of coming up with deals that don't solve 100% of the problem but solve 80%, 90% of the problem while avoiding the necessity of going to war, you'd think we would have learned that lesson by now," the former President added. Fox News rebel Jessica Tarlov has destroyed the Trump administration’s victory-lapping over its new Iran agreement, pointing out that it looks far less impressive once you read the fine print. Even shameless warhawk and Trump Groupie #1 Lindsey Graham is sounding the alarm about the gap between what the U.S. claims is in the deal and what the Iranians are saying, Tarlov pointed out. The network's lone lefty also shocked her Trumper colleagues by calling out the strategic blame-shifting toward JD Vance once the devil in the details are revealed, setting the stage for him to be thrown under the bus in case it all falls apart. And of course, there are already whispers about the big money in US investment deals that our esteemed and patriotic negotiators Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff are reportedly very interested in. Tarlov’s conclusion was stark. This is no “historic” breakthrough Trump is trying to sell us. It’s a vague, face-saving memo that delays the hardest questions while Iran continues to do pretty much as it pleases. For the umpteenth time, Trump is claiming total victory, while the details reveal no such thing. The man who tried to mock Obama’s Iran deal as ineffectual has now replaced it with something that looks weaker, less transparent, and much more likely to fall apart. The same man whose administration still has not given Americans the full truth about the Epstein files. Now he wants us to take his word on a secret Iran deal after 107 days of war, dead U.S. service members, hundreds wounded, global instability, and Iran walking away declaring victory. Sorry. No. Just no. Public trust is not something presidents are entitled to. It’s something they earn. And Trump has spent his entire public life teaching Americans that when he says “trust me,” we should check the locks, count the money, and demand the receipts. If the deal is great, release it. If there are no hidden concessions, show Congress. If Iran is lying, prove it. We have seen this act before. It’s getting old.
