While researching the architect David Ming-Li Lowe a few months ago, I came across “Real Estate As Art: New Architecture in Venice, California,” a wonderfully weird book by Joseph Giovannini from 1984
giving a talk next week! (about making type move in 3d with blender & @coldtypexyz) — talk will be part of the brand new inScript festival — more info at inscript.tf
working on support for COLRv1 in @coldtypexyz — will be part of the next release, thanks to BlackRenderer — here's a test on colab: colab.research.google.com/dr…
(copied the arabic text from the google fonts site — please let me know if it looks wrong!)
a new coldtype-for-blender with an improved interface for multi-line text — you can now break lines with a ¶-symbol, or with actual newlines in an internal Blender text block or an external file: github.com/coldtype/coldtype…
ALT Text — set in the font MD Nichrome — that reads: “Just a little bit of text, which makes sense for something three-dimensional.” Made in Blender w/ the coldtype-blender addon; made while debugging that addon.
Posted because of the interesting play of light on the letterforms, which are mechanically outlined and brought so close together they form new hollowed-out shapes.
new version of coldtype-blender now available github.com/coldtype/coldtype… — just a small update to add support for turning text into shapes that you can throw around, like i'm doing here (shapes from Streco by @SophiaTypeLove)
ever wanted to make a 3d font that's actually a font?
here's a proof-of-concept font editing addon for blender that builds fonts w/ embedded geometry data for each glyph
(which the coldtype blender addon can read & use to typeset)
another test of the coldtype add-on for blender — still very early days and lots of bugs, but now publicly available at github.com/coldtype/coldtype… if you’d like to try it out (font credit: @cinketype’s Kass)
