Husband, dad, motorcycle enthusiast, book guy. My “Collecting the Modern Macabre” feature and interviews appear in Centipede Press’ annual WEIRD FICTION REVIEW.

Turns out actor Paul Giamatti is a kindred spirit to me & others here. I just spent 2 hours enjoying his enthusiasm about vintage paperbacks and authors as diverse as Jim Thompson and William Hope Hodgson. The interview with @bookgraveyard77 is here:

The last couple of weeks brought two exciting hardcover arrivals, a duo of new titles from two of my very favorite authors, Charles Beaumont (d. 1967) and Robert Bloch (d. 1994). Published by Centipede Press and Haffner Press, respectively.
As one w/ overcrowded bookshelves, this column by @DavidHHeadley hit home, especially "Books absorb memory. Not just the stories inside them but the circumstances in which they came to you. . . .Giving them away can feel like dismantling your own history.

(1 of 2) I just learned that Thomas Tessier, one of my favorite authors and a man I liked to call a friend, has died. He was exceedingly affable and generous with his time in the many years I've known him, and his passing is a true loss for his family, friends, and readers.
(2 of 2) Tom and I worked on a project together that I expect will be coming out within the year. I hope it will serve as a reminder of what a kind man he was, and how thoughtful and imaginative an artist.
I visited the Ray Harryhausen exhibit at the @museumofminis in Tucson this weekend, and seeing the working models of the images that so delighted the young me decades ago was an absolute treat. These four pics just scratch the surface of this fantastic and fascinating showcase.
As a big fan of Jack Ritchie (1922 - 1983) and his stories of vintage macabre mystery, I was delighted to see this new CARDULA collection out by @CrippenLandru, and didn't hesitate to place an order for it. It contains all nine Cardula tales plus six bonus locked-room mysteries.
The last page of A MONTH IN THE COUNTRY (1980) by J. L. Carr (d. 1994) has several beautiful lines in it that truly capture that amorphous sense of wistful melancholy.
I find myself in the mood for something with the unmoored, apocalyptic vibe of @StephenKing's "The Mist", with its baneful menace hidden behind an opaque cosmic shroud, and I plan to scratch that itch with @JonathanJanz's VEIL and @AlexWoodroe's THE NIGHT SHIP.
Nice to see that Jim Thompson is finally getting the standalone treatment from @LibraryAmerica. "Books are expected to ship from the printer in late January."
