Peace, at last? I hope🤞
Following intensive talks, we are pleased to announce that the Peace Deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran has been REACHED. Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon. The official signing ceremony will be on Friday, 19 June in Switzerland. We would like to thank the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran for their commitment to finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict. We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to our brothers in this mediation effort, the great leadership of State of Qatar, for their support in reaching this agreement. I would also especially thank the visionary leadership of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Republic of Türkiye for their immense contributions in this regard. With the agreement now in place, mediators will facilitate a series of meetings this week. These pre-implementation discussions will lay the foundation for the technical talks and the official signing ceremony. @realDonaldTrump @JDVance @SecRubio @SteveWitkoff @SEPeaceMissions @drpezeshkian @mb_ghalibaf @araghchi

If you have to explain yourself, it means you have already lost the narrative. And this is 100% on you. Stop explaining and admit you f****d it up. It’s ok, the tournament will be awesome, despite all your effort in destroying it. By match day 2 people won’t remember any of this.
Official attendance figures reflect the number of tickets scanned and spectators present within the stadium footprint, rather than visual assessments of seating occupancy at any given moment during the match. FIFA works closely with stadium authorities and ticketing teams to ensure all published figures are based on verified operational data. Please note that, during last night’s match in Guadalajara, several ticketed fans could be seen standing in concourses rather than staying in their assigned seats throughout the match.
Community note
Photos from the match show thousands of empty seats throughout the stadium, contradicting the claim of only several fans in concourses. nytimes.com/athletic/73524… yahoo.com/news/world/art…

"We did more in 90 minutes than the politicians did in 20 years." 🇺🇸🇮🇷 The USA vs. Iran match at the 1998 World Cup carried one of the heaviest political weights in football history. Before kickoff, a major protocol crisis emerged: FIFA rules required Iranian players to walk toward the Americans for the pre-match handshake, but Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei strictly forbade it. The deadlock was broken only when the American players, coordinating with French and FIFA officials, agreed to waive the protocol and walk toward their opponents instead. This gesture transformed the tension into a historic display of sportsmanship, with both teams posing arm-in-arm and Iranian players presenting white roses to their rivals. While Iran won the match 2-1, the game ended with players swapping jerseys in a show of brotherhood. As US defender Jeff Agoos famously put it: "We did more in 90 minutes than the politicians did in 20 years."

The message Team Melli wants to bring that pro-War/pro-Trump diaspora Iranians want to shut down: “We are a peaceful people…we have a rich history”

I tried Claude Code Fable yesterday. 🤯 I asked it to come up with an idea for a paper, then download and clean the data, develop the model, calibrate it and run a simple accounting exercise. It did all that, submitted the paper, handled referee comments and got it accepted. This morning I received the proof of my forthcoming paper.😉

The H1-B visa fee is a good example of a policy that is justified on dubious claims empirical claims but and in fact engenders long run harms to the US economy. The assertion that H1-B recipients reduce domestic wages is debunked in this very careful paper by Michael Clemens @m_clem Immigrant-Native Wage Gaps and Immigration Tariffs: Examining the Case for an H-1B Visa Tax iza.org/publications/dp/1843… In contrast, the H1-B has been a consistent source of international talent for the United States. This recent literature synthesis by Gaurav Khanna @econgaurav From Asia, with Skills pubs.aeaweb.org/doi/pdfplus/… is terrific on the general value of high skilled immigrants to the economy and discusses several of the main studies of the economic effects of H1-B recipients.

Stop spreading this nonsense misinformation. FIFA requires coaching staff and players to take part in pre match press conference. Also every team is entitled to one training session on the match pitch. So the team must travel at least a day earlier.
BREAKING: Iran’s World Cup squad has been notified they must enter and leave US soil on the same day of their matches played in America, says Tehran’s ambassador to Mexico.
