Slightly unfair but useful thought experiment.
Since 1900 US GDP per capita grew from $4000 to ~$45,000 by year 2000. Even a more modern ~2% GDP growth rate would be $29,000 by year 2000.
If we take Canada's last 8 years GDP capita growth rate and apply it to the US in 1900, the number is $5,400.
How different would the world be if the US didn't prioritize growth?
How different will Canada of 2070 be if we don't figure this out?
Terrorism is not politics. There are no 'sides' in terrorism.
If, for whatever reason, you find yourself justifying terrorist acts, to yourself or anyone else, you are in the wrong.
The man himself @samsebastian talking #GenAI and the impact that @googlecloud sees ahead.
His advice: GenAI has hit in the last 3 months. Understand the business problem -> move to activation and testing quickly. A huge opportunity for 🇨🇦 exists, now, to stake our claim.
It was a real pleasure to have the dragon herself @manjitminhas share her insights on success at #redbrickevolve2023 with the @rdbrck team today:
- on negotiation as a life style
- on surrounding ourselves with truth tellers
- on being courageous in competing with the behemoths.
A headline I hoped I'd never read in a country I am so proud of. Come on 🇨🇦, we are better than this...

My favourite day on Twitter comes around again, and the conversation around #BellLetsTalk and mental health gets more and more important every time it does. Be kind to yourself and the people around you. Thanks @Bell_LetsTalk 👊🇨🇦🔥
Today is #BellLetsTalk Day! One of the ways we can all take action is to learn about mental health organizations creating positive change for mental health in Canada…every day.
I got to judge a regional debate tournament @BrentwoodNews yesterday. Generally, I think the core elements of debate - structuring logical arguments, active listening, and rebutting and refining ideas through discussion - are keys to our progress as a species, and on the wane.
They argued for and against security alliances, artificial intelligence, and reverting ownership of the BC forests to the First Nations. Tough topics, handled with intellectual curiosity, careful consideration, and convincing communication.
It was great to see these bright students devoted to such an important life skill.
It seems every time I come back to school my faith in the future of humanity grows

openAI or "open"AI?
1/ OpenAI's #chatgpt release will mark the beginning of the end of the golden age of open research in deep learning.
This will have significant implications for LLM research going forward.
Here are some thoughts from me, @vivek7ue and @rajhans_samdani 🧵

“world-leading ban on harmful single-use plastics will result in the estimated elimination of over 1.3 million tonnes of hard-to-recycle plastic waste and more than 22,000 tonnes of plastic pollution, which is equivalent to over one million full garbage bags.”
🇨🇦💯👊
Canada’s ban on certain harmful single-use plastics is starting to come into force. As of December 20, 2022, the manufacture and import for sale of certain harmful single-use plastics in Canada will be prohibited.

Its Year-In-Review season, and 2022 inspired a great deal of review. It was a year of tensions, and I've shared some observations of another year on the forefront of some incredible #Canadian#technology#startup and #scaleups companies here:
