5 years ago I joined the Museums & Cultural Property team @DCMS. I'm proud of things I've worked on supporting the sector I love - from the cultural recovery fund to creating a new definition of treasure. I'm sad to say goodbye (it's the best team!), but new challenges await!
New day. New building. New job. Excited to be starting @DCMS as a senior policy advisor for museums 🏛

Fantasic visit to another of my local museums @bentley_priory. Beautiful displays and great spaces and activities for little ones (especially those obsessed with aeroplanes like mine!). Looking forward to coming back when it is a bit warmer to enjoy the gardens #museumtoddler

Discovering magnifying glasses for the first time @hrobinsonmuseum last week. A lovely little local museum, with an unexpected amount to interest this curious #museumbaby (or should that now be #museumtoddler?)

Did you see the news? @dcms wants to widen the definition of #treasure so that archaeologically or historically significant objects can be acquired by museums. Yesterday, the draft Statutory Instrument that would enable this was laid before Parliament: legislation.gov.uk/ukdsi/202…

It outlines the new definition of treasure. If agreed, then objects that provide an exceptional insight into an aspect of national or regional history, archaeology or culture will be treasure. @DCMS will also update the Codes of Practice - more information to come!

Continuing our tour of galleries - #museumbaby and I went to @NationalGallery see how many other babies we could spot. I think this particular painting inspired lunch!

And on a practical note - excellent baby change facilities @nationalgallery . . .unlike the last gallery we visited where the location of the fold down changing mat within the toilets made it unusable 🤦‍♀️

Learning about shape, space and colours from Matisse @Tate will make a #museumbaby of this one yet!

First trip to the @britishmuseum for this little one. Going to an exhibition with a baby is quite a different experience, and while I didn’t get to read all the labels, we loved the World of Stonehenge. Well done @NWilkinBM and @JWexlerBM 👏

Great to see big ££ to independent museums for desperately needed estates improvements! After developing this fund in my former @DCMS role and seeing it delayed by covid also pleased just to see it come to fruition, congratulations to @ace_national and other colleagues involved.
JUST ANNOUNCED📢 More than 60 cultural venues will receive almost £50 million through the Cultural Investment Fund. We've worked with @DCMS to improve existing or deliver new cultural infrastructure across England. Get the details: buff.ly/3I3RrgG #HereForCulture

This rare early medieval brooch was made around AD 800–900, and was found near Cheddar in south west England in 2020. It’s an elaborate object, likely owned by a high-status person, but the circumstances of its discovery suggest it was lost rather than buried for safekeeping.
