Can anyone of the Boomer-persuasion explain to me why it's good to base your entire identity on protesting the Vietnam war on campus--often in ways far more violent than anything we're seeing now--but protesting the genocidal war going on now is evil and wrong?
Most of the โuh-oh, Dems are convening in Chicagoโ discourse is Boomer Brain, because yes, there would be protests in any city. Atlanta bid for the DNC, and if it got it Dems would be learning a lot about Stop Cop City right now.
Throughout history, protests were co-opted and made to look bad so police and public leaders would shut them down. Thatโs what we are seeing now at Columbia University. The Columbia protesters have made clear their demands and want their school not to be complacent in the ongoing Genocide in Gaza. Public officials and media making this about anything else are inflaming the situation and need to bring calmness and sanity back.
Republicans are substantially less likely to understand how marginal tax rates work.
"Suppose that your income put you at the very top of the 28% tax bracket and you earned one more dollar such that you were now in the 33% tax bracket. Your tax bill would go up _____?"
Oh my bad for needing to buy FOOD, you intolerable dipshits

I am proud that the UAW International Union is calling for a ceasefire in Israel and Palestine. From opposing fascism in WWII to mobilizing against apartheid South Africa and the CONTRA war, the @UAW has consistently stood for justice across the globe..
Again, Israelโs official position is that these medical professionalsโ colleagues in Gaza (and presumably them as well) are conspiring to cover up a massive Hamas command and control center placed within and underneath these hospitals. This is the frame NYT and WaPo are adopting
NEW: Reuters poll shows that 68% of Americans want a ceasefire, including about 75% of Democrats and 50% of Republicans.
4.5% of Congress currently support a ceasefire. No Republican members have come out in favor of stopping the violence.
With Maxine Waters, 24 members of Congress now support a ceasefire:
Senate:
Durbin
House:
Bush
Tlaib
Carson
S. Lee
Ramirez
Bowman
W. Coleman
C. Garcia
Jackson (IL)
AOC
Omar
Pressley
Velรกzquez

Jayapal
Casar
Adams
Frost

This image will go down in history. Hand in hand, leaders of both parties declaring they stand with Israel, with chants of โno ceasefireโ abound.
Hours later, Israel rounded up journalists and invaded a hospital with thousands of patients and refugees created from their violence.

The people fought. The world won. We're under no illusion that the struggle for reproductive justice ends here. But tonight, we celebrate. And if you canvassed, phonebanked, or in any other way volunteered for Issue 1, know we are celebrating *you*.
