We need to broaden our view to the entire hospital as opposed to focusing on ED. When beds are finite we need to focus on efficient IP stays under the correct teams as opposed to anywhere from ED will do. We need more direct admission pathways and early specialist input

If insanity is repeatedly doing the same thing and expecting different results … Overcrowding in EDs kills patients and harms staff. The core problem is the “back door” of our departments. Continued focus on the “front door” through redirection strategies won’t work. @RCollEM
A plan which outlines NHS England’s priorities for the next 3 years ‘offers no meaningful roadmap’ to reduce dangerous long waits in Emergency Departments. Our response to NHS England’s Medium Term Planning Framework 2026/27-2028/29: rcem.ac.uk/press-release/nhs…

Congratulations, your fully healthy roster took down the hospital unit of a Fever team in game 5… in OT. Hardly a flex… but please beat the Mercury 🙏

Las Vegas Aces flopping their way to the #WNBAPlayoffs2025 final. Disgraceful tactics detracting from a competitive series.

The music guy is on the de-escalation committee for the #Fever #Atlanta game. Playing “Let it Be” during a ridiculous challenge by Atlanta bench. #WNBAPlayoffs

Unpopular opinion: Doctors who refuse to take a call from “anyone below SHO level” are a patient safety risk. The most junior doctors in our workplace are exactly the doctors we should be encouraging to phone for advice.

Emergency departments (EDs) often seem to shift from calm to crisis in an instant. Why? Complexity science and self-organised criticality, explainshow minor changes—like a few extra patients—can trigger chaos. @stemlyns stemlynsblog.org/self-organi…

Please tell me there is a special place in hell for parents that scream at referees & other people’s children from the sidelines of kids sport matches. 😡

Back in my day there was so much toilet paper and so much eggs that we gathered at night and threw them at the houses of our enemies.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, getting an Emergency Medicine consultant job is not quite as easy as just nailing an interview. In reality, the preparation starts way earlier, so really this #blog should be called, ‘how to get the consultant job of your dreams’. rcemlearning.co.uk/foamed/ho…
