If I text someone who’s in Do Not Disturb I’m smashing that “Notify Anyway” button instantly. If you’re too busy with your family or whatever to hear my thoughts on Jerry Garcia Band’s 1990 “Harder They Come” featuring Bela Fleck (“it’s good!”) then just lose my number already.

Saying Deron Williams vs CP3 wasn’t a conversation is letting me and everybody who was there know, you wasn’t there.

The decades long criticism of the NBA was always “they don’t play hard.” Which has always been almost completely false. And yet somehow, the entire NBA took that false narrative and said, “we’ll show you! We just actually won’t play, and tell you why it’s important we don’t!”

Why the NBA should embrace just not actually playing the games, but creating an experience revolving around the idea of games being played - 🧵 My God, when does it end.
Why the NBA should embrace tanking - The NBA has kate been misguided thinking that fans want to see their teams compete every night with a chance to win. It’s never been that way that way. When I got into the nba, they thought they were in the basketball business. They aren’t. They are in the business of creating experiences for fans. Few can remember the score from the last game they saw or went to. They can’t remember the dunks or shots. What they remember is who they were with. Their family, friends, a date. That’s what makes the experience special. Fans know their team can’t win every game. They know only one team can win a ring. What fan that care about their team’s record want is hope. Hope they will get better and have a chance to compete for the playoffs and then maybe a ring. The one way to get closer to that is via the draft. And trades. And cap room. You have a better chance of improving via all 3 , when you tank. We didn’t tank often. Only a few times over 23 years, but when we did, our fans appreciated it. And it got us to where we could improve, trade up to get Luka and improve our team. The nba should worry more about fan experience than tanking. It should worry more about pricing fans out of games than tanking. You know who cares the least about tanking , a parent who cant afford to bring their 3 kids to a game and buy their kids a jersey of their fave player Tanking isn’t the issue. Affordability and quality of game presentation are

Imagine the joy and fun of going to a “game” finding out that AI LeBron is on “3 simulated games in 5 nights rest” and watching highlight clips of simulated basketball while basketball dorks tell you how it’s actually important long term for AI LeBron to get his rest!

As people in the sports industry privately say all the time, “F the fans.” Am I right? Just give them the experience they don’t know they actually want. Signed, Thought leaders of Sport

Around middle school 96ish I was at a basketball camp, and every night they'd bust out these NBA VHS tapes for us to watch after dinner, one night there was one on Larry, and I'll never forget seeing him do the reverse dunk and all of us yelled simultaneously, 'BIRD DUNKS?!?"
Good morning. This video will undoubtedly be the most beautiful you'll see today.

Brent Barry wearing his Clippers jacket from the dunk contest 30 years ago is awesome.
