"I work for you". That's what I tell every new employee that joins our team.
True leadership isn't about power, money or control, it's about empowering others achieve their best so we can all thrive.
Although it might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the Bible, but Jesus' words apply now more than ever, and the extend to topics like leadership as well.
Jesus is very clear - true leadership is about lowering yourself, putting others first, and serving their needs.
In Luke 22:25–27, Jesus is listening to his disciples talk about who among them is greatest.
He responds by telling his disciples that the greatest among them is the one who humbles themselves and serves others.
Jesus goes on to show that even he (the ultimate leader, the Son of God) serves others first.
I get it - you're reading this on LinkedIn, a place where you come to talk about business, not theology.
But everything you need to lead a successful, productive, healthy business is already written.
God is all knowing - the exact situation you are in right now is not by accident.
The way out, is through.
As a leader, that means humbling yourself before others:
- Accepting responsibility when things go wrong
- Listen deeply before reacting
- Rewards others with credit (verbal, monetary, responsibility)
- Teach others and be generous with your time gifts
When you serve first, you grow.
