At last, the first official teaser for my original kaiju project, REKIRA THE SUPER-MONSTER! Animated in Blender. And yes, that's Rekira's new original roar (which was completed last year, after 15 years in the making)! #RekiraTheSuperMonster #indieanimation

I always thought Hanna-Barbera was a better fit for Archie Comics than Filmation! Anyway, here's a sample from the Japanese dub of JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS (Hanna-Barbera; 1970), based on Dan DeCarlo's Archie comic series, SHE'S JOSIE (which I always thought was better)!

BTW, that's comedian Shinji Maki doing the voice of the guest villain.

Exactly! The reason Godzilla’s evolution from villain to hero worked in the Showa era (more so than other eras) was because it was *earned.* Godzilla’s first hero years started with being a reluctant antihero throughout the 1960s, and that was quite relatable.
Showa Godzilla has the best character development compared to the rest of his counterparts, but nobody wants to talk about that

In the Heisei and Millennium Godzilla series, the sympathy and eventual heroism was forced, because Toho needed to have these popular qualities in a rote way. Maybe it was the toy merchandise? Maybe the kid demographic? Nostalgia?

Awesome work from the great Canadian animator Robert Valley! You've seen his work with Gorillaz, the BEATLES ROCK BAND game, LOVE, DEATH & ROBOTS, and his award-winning short PEAR CIDER & CIGARETTES. This is often what I compared the style of Ultraman in ULTRAMAN: RISING to!

In my opinion, the single darkest Ultra Series episode ever made! Episode #40 ("MAC Annihilated! The Flying Saucer is Alive!") of ULTRAMAN LEO (Tsuburaya; 1974) begins with most of the supporting characters (including MAC) all fridged by the monster Silver-Bloome.

This episode marks the debut of a new main villain, the one who dispatched Silver-Bloome, Black-Directive, an alien who resembles Dishonest John or Snidely Whiplash, but is *far* more evil than those two! Black-Directive would be the main villain for the remainder of LEO.

Oh, the things Americans missed out on! Chip, the robot from Episode #11 ("The Man-Made Answering Machine Robot") from ARMY OF THE APES (Tsuburaya; 1974). One of *many* things left out of Sandy Frank's 1987 compilation film, TIME OF THE APES!

Anyone recognize Toho veteran Kazuo Suzuki as one of the main villains in KAMEN RIDER SUPER-1 (Toei; 1980)?😉 His character's name is Professor Ghost.

As he appeared in TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA (Toho; 1975) as a Black Hole Alien, for example.

If Lupin III were animated by Richard Williams...
I wonder if anyone’s ever managed to find the HD version of the Lupin III ESSO commercial it’s a crime that they were able to make “Lupin III in the style of Roger Rabbit”, only for the shots have VHS blur obscuring that on even the BEST versions of it 😔

Hecate transforms into a cat in Osamu Tezuka’s PRINCESS KNIGHT (Mushi; 1967)! This is adorable. Isao Tomita’s Tom & Jerry-style music suits this scene perfectly!

Ultraman fights the insectoid monster Antlar in Episode #7 (“The Blue Stone of Baradhi”) of ULTRAMAN (Tsuburaya; 1966), the first fight where Ultraman needed a bit of help to defeat this monster…

From 1960, a stop-motion animated commercial for Asahi Beer! Animated by Kihachiro Kawamoto (who would soon work with Rankin-Bass’ Videocraft until WILLY McBEAN AND HIS MAGIC MACHINE in 1965, before going indie)!

Exactly!
I liked how Ralph Bakshi gets the appeal of anime at a time when many of his contemporaries in animation were dissmisive of it

Toho’s first tokusatsu film in color! Here’s an excerpt from their Hong Kong coproduction, THE LEGEND OF THE WHITE SERPENT (Shaw Brothers/Toho; 1956), based on the romantic Chinese fairy tale. Director of special effects: Eiji Tsuburaya.

The opening title sequence (from Episode #2 onward) of LIGHT SPEED ESPER (Senkosha; 1967), the penultimate tokusatsu superhero series of the 1960s! Based upon mangaka Riji Asano’s kid superhero mascot for Toshiba Electronics. This is a surprisingly good series!

The star of the series is Kiyotaka Mitsugi, who you’ve seen as one of the ZAT members in ULTRAMAN TARO (Tsuburaya; 1973), the star of WHITE LION MASK (Yamato Planning; 1973), and also appeared in the 14th Super Sentai, EARTH TASK FORCE FIVEMAN, among other series!
