India may need a second independence movement. The first, led by Gandhi, sought political freedom. The second should seek freedom from Andh Bhakti - the habit of surrendering critical thinking to leaders, ideologies, and institutions. A nation truly becomes free when its people learn to question, think, and hold power accountable.

All these people attacking me in X are so stupid. They think the purpose of life is to make money. They don’t realize that the purpose of life is to become a better version of yourself - mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Those who boldly claim that India has brought millions of people out of poverty have become insensitive over many decades to the pain of the poor.

After much interaction on X, I’ve concluded that Indians (collectively and in aggregate) have sold their souls to the devil. Humanity has left their hearts.

The Indian mind is not truly free. A child growing up in India is exposed to constant negativity: cultism sold as religion, unequal opportunities, vulgar displays of ill-gotten wealth, a deeply transactional society, normalized corruption, unhealthy competition that often breeds schadenfreude, and the repeated triumph of compromised institutions and businesses. The saddest part? The moment you point out these behaviors and ask for reform, the protectors of the system rush to label you “anti-national” rather than engage with the criticism. A nation grows when it can confront its flaws honestly, not when it silences those who dare to point them out.

Hindu priests use fear to seek their cock-and-bull interpretation of Hinduism. Reject their fear-based nonsense. I am a Hindu. I reject it.

Sycophancy is not loyalty. Loyalty tells you the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable. Sycophancy tells you what you want to hear, even when it leads you in the wrong direction.

Everything in India seems performative: performative politicians, performative opposition, performative institutions, performative religiosity, performative outrage, performative cleanliness, and performative compassion. Meanwhile, the one reality that cannot be ignored is that hundreds of millions still struggle with poverty and economic insecurity. The tragedy is not just the poverty itself, but how little serious attention it receives compared to everything else that dominates the public conversation.

I think the present form of Hinduism-idol worship, ritual dips in the Ganges, astrology-driven name changes, vastu prescriptions, sacred threads, rings, forehead marks, and countless rituals amplified by a thriving pandit industry-has drifted far from spirituality and into superstition. If religion is meant to encourage self-reflection, compassion, truth, and personal growth, then these outward symbols and ritualistic practices often miss the point. The sooner young Indians learn to question inherited beliefs and distinguish spirituality from superstition, the better off India will be.

I get the feeling that the country that wears religion on its sleeve does not believe in God.

India has lost over 2.3 million hectares of tree cover since 2000, yet we keep talking about GDP, expressways and smart cities as if forests are optional. Forests are not a luxury. They are the source of clean air, water, biodiversity and a livable climate. A country that cuts down its forests faster than it restores them is borrowing from future generations to pay for today’s development.

If people’s behavior in India is dictated by the likes and dislikes of the Great Leader, then how is India any different from North Korea? A healthy democracy is built on independent thought, questioning authority, and holding leaders accountable - not on citizens taking cues from a single individual.

We know the PM doesn’t like to hear criticism of himself and his government. Should the rest of India emulate him?

Do you think Indians are excessively thin-skinned, and does that make them more closed to new ideas? A society grows when people can hear criticism without taking it as a personal attack. If every uncomfortable question is dismissed as negativity, anti-nationalism, or disrespect, innovation and progress suffer. Openness begins with the ability to listen.

Is it possible that all of India is subconsciously under a spell of schadenfreude?

The only people truly happy in India seem to be the small percentage who are making money off the labor, aspirations, or misfortunes of others. Everyone else is stuck navigating inflation, unemployment, corruption, poor public services, and a constant struggle to get ahead. A society cannot thrive when prosperity is concentrated and frustration is widespread.

People say India lacks civic sense. I disagree. Civic sense is merely a reflection of something deeper: personal responsibility. Streets don’t become dirty because governments fail; they become dirty because individuals believe someone else will clean up after them. Fix the mindset, and civic sense follows.

Respect and love for life are absent in India. Fix this and you’ll fix every problem that exists.
