@AIatMeta dropped SAM 3 today along with SAM 3D.
The main upgrade: you can now prompt with text instead of being locked into predefined classes. Major improvement for edge cases and long-tail concepts that traditional segmentation models miss. 🧵

On the research side, they partnered with Conservation X Labs for SA-FARI (10K wildlife videos, 100 species) and FathomNet for underwater segmentation. Both datasets are public. Good to see practical applications in conservation and marine research.

Everything's open sourced - weights, SA-Co benchmark, fine-tuning code. They acknowledge limitations with domain-specific terminology in zero-shot (e.g., medical imaging) but claim fast adaptation with small labeled datasets. Roboflow partnership for deployment.
