@AIatMeta dropped SAM 3 today along with SAM 3D. The main upgrade: you can now prompt with text instead of being locked into predefined classes. Major improvement for edge cases and long-tail concepts that traditional segmentation models miss. 🧵 Blog: ai.meta.com/blog/segment-any…

On the research side, they partnered with Conservation X Labs for SA-FARI (10K wildlife videos, 100 species) and FathomNet for underwater segmentation. Both datasets are public. Good to see practical applications in conservation and marine research.

Everything's open sourced - weights, SA-Co benchmark, fine-tuning code. They acknowledge limitations with domain-specific terminology in zero-shot (e.g., medical imaging) but claim fast adaptation with small labeled datasets. Roboflow partnership for deployment.

5. Communicate effectively: Technical brilliance doesn't matter if no one understands you. I learned to: - Skip jargon when possible - Use visuals to explain concepts - Confirm understanding before moving on Clear communication = faster execution.

10. Develop cross-team impact: The biggest opportunities require working across departments. I learned to speak "product language" with product owners and "engineering language" with engineers. Being a bridge between teams makes you irreplaceable.
