Noise is a secret destroyer of productivity. It is secret because it impacts cognition, not effort, so we don’t notice, but a 10db noise increase (from a dishwasher to a vacuum) lowers productivity by 5%. Noise is also greater in poorer neighborhoods... joshuatdean.com/wp-content/u…

The Monarchy probably should be abolished eventually, but not because it's 'expensive'. Our elected representatives wasted over 40bn *in the past 3 years* - Truss's budget, Tory crony PPE suppliers... If you're gonna piss my money away I at least want to see your shiny gold car

British people who want to abolish the monarchy: - what would you want it to be replaced with? - how would the replacement be better for individual people and/or for communities?

It's striking how the messaging this weekend has been all about values 'above' politics that bring people together (service, diversity etc). Sharp contrast to most of today's political discourse & media which target our differences, usually to manipulate or market to us.

Supporters of the monarchy skew to the right, though you do get jingoistic idiots on both sides. My opinion is that the monarchy is quite benign as it is, and we should fix other, more broken things here first. Debates about abolishing the monarchy are culture war distractions.

Apparently I joined Twitter 12 years ago. Is this a good or a bad thing? Time will tell.

I had a nurse attempt to take some blood the other day, but they struck a nerve instead (painful jolt down my arm - reader, I yelped). 72 hrs later it still hurts, with occasional severe pain in my hand when I'm carrying things at certain angles, or stretching. Any thoughts?

Classic 'computer says no' from @AmazonUK & DPD: -Morning of due day: delivery status 'on hold' -No delivery attempted. Each company says to contact the other for info. ...What happened to my item? WHY can't it be delivered? Also, why is this interaction so poor, yet so common?

Actually my hunch (on no evidence at all) is that the refill sachet of hand soap in this order may have exploded. But the UI seems to vaguely point some blame at me ("delivery was attempted" - really? how was the item marked as 'on hold' before it left the warehouse then?)

Stranded in Prague thanks to 2" of snow in London. Ryanair was predictably awful about it. Going to be interesting trying to work for the next few days... (Anyone know if I can claim food or other expenses?)

I bought Red when I was on a family holiday in Canada in 1999, aged 13. Was a little underwhelmed by Silver. I haven't bought a Pokémon game since. But I have a Switch now, so...
What was your first #Pokemon game?
