This probably embodies the best the Western media's bias against China.
Hypocrisy and brazen audacity are at their highest when a foreign paper is courting China's money so much that it developed two decades ago a China-specific version of itself, spent a fortune to wrap in advertising Hong Kong's emblematic landmark, the IFC tower, and at the same time is the main vector of the most sophisticated and insidious anti-China propaganda.
Incidentally, it keeps some of its hit pieces available to the casual reader FOR FREE (like this gem :
ft.com/content/27a2c28e-d28b…), to make sure nobody misses the message, although it keeps every other content, bar the headlines, hidden behind a paywall.
This is a common trick in Western media, you can check with your favorite publication : most keep some of their best anti-China pieces out of the paywall for your personal edification.
Each and every made-up accusation and insinuation against China acquire its legitimacy in this sort of posh publication : collapse, spying, genocide (including cultural), etc.
Stay alert and seek information, not infotainment.
