KS Gov debate, Fox 4:
Performance v Expectations:
P Sarnecki: Better than expected; forgot a line tho

I talk about this case a lot in reference to police escalation and violence.
This mother was experiencing a postpartum mental health crisis.
The family called for help…
…the police police proceeded shoot and kill both the mother and her baby who both died a slow and painful deaths.
Glad to see *some* justice around this, but it is sadly a settlement (despite it being the biggest in Missouri history).
No officers were punished (and can attest Independence cops have a baaaaad track record).
It’s horrifying how frequently police in general kill some of the most confused, scared, and vulnerable people they are meant to save. 25%-50% of fatal police shootings are someone in a mental health crisis.
The police (or even federal officers like ICE) cannot help people when they are a poorly trained militant force encouraged to see all civilians as combatants.
