Like most first borns, she took a while. Coming in just under the deadline to say, happy pub day to this book with an extra pretty cover. I know. I’m not supposed to, but I can’t help but judge her by that illustration and cover design. #fiction#pubday#debut
As a bookshop owner in the middle of the country, I have many thoughts about this. I don't disagree, and give praise to the people who work incredibly hard on behalf of writers, but for the future of books and democracy, publishers need to set their sights beyond the northeast.
At just 22, Jack Smiley ’25 was paralyzed on his right side after collapsing at hockey practice on Feb. 21, 2022. Doctors couldn’t tell him if he would ever walk again.

Let’s be real. This is an extension of what happened to me at UNC, and it is a glimpse into the future to come. Academic freedom is under attack. Racial justice programs are under attack. Black women will be made to pay. Our so-called allies too often lack any real courage.
Unbelievable. Believable. We've done it many times before. Even while we don't have enough housing, food, education, medical care, etc and are teetering on the edge of the end of democracy, going against the rest of the world, the UN. #CeaseFireNownytimes.com/2023/12/30/world…

Flying out of SFO today and headed to an event at @SalemAthenaeum this week, but this is the end of my official debut novel book tour. There are some literary festivals in the spring as I hope there always will be. It's been so awesome to see so many people and share this work.
So grateful to be a finalist for this! Thanks to the editors for the often thankless work of reading, and excited to be considered with so many other great writers!

Congrats to Gemini Wahhaj for her debut novel with 7.13, our 29th book, which has received coverage in Publishers Weekly, Electric Lit, Vol. 1 Brooklyn, and here in Ms. Magazine...
Impossible to comprehend how, instead of supporting a ceasefire and humanitarian aid, our Congress is on a witch hunt against university presidents for their unwillingness to condemn the very idea of a Palestine.
How can one be a citizen of the US—thus complicit in this absolute horror—without losing one’s mind or faith in humanity. I truly don’t know. I’m struggling.
