BJP in Tamil Nadu has little to lose by attacking Annamalai. For at least the next 15 years, the party is unlikely to be a major electoral force in the state. In fact, Annamalai will occupy much of the limited political space that BJP currently holds in Tamil Nadu. Annamalai, however, lacks the same latitude to take on BJP directly, limiting his criticism largely to policy and governance issues. The party's strategy appears to be to provoke him or his supporters into a response, hoping to slow the exodus of even its traditional cadre toward him. Many of these supporters are comfortable balancing their loyalties - backing Modi at the national level while seeing Annamalai as their preferred leader in Tamil Nadu. Any direct response from him or his supporters risks bringing to the surface an uncomfortable question for cadres moving away from BJP in Tamil Nadu - whether their primary loyalty lies with Modi and BJP at the Centre or with him. Annamalai is smart to take the bait and too decent to respond . On the contrary, the same cant be said about his supporters.

Cornfields cover roughly 37% of Iowa's land area, and in the summer they create an endless sea of green that is simply beautiful to watch. One day, while my wife and I were driving through the back roads of Iowa, surrounded by miles of cornfields, we got a flat tire (pic). I knew how to swap it out with the spare, but I also had AAA membership. Since we weren't in a hurry, I called AAA. We pulled out our beach chairs from the trunk, sat by the roadside, and enjoyed the peaceful view of the cornfields stretching to the horizon. About 30 minutes later, AAA arrived and replaced the tire.
