Today Austin’s historic golf course, Lions Municipal “Muny”, celebrates 100 years. The first desegregated golf course in the south. Check out this video my grandad took of my mom and former heavyweight boxer Joe Louis back in the 50’s.

Great to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Lions Municipal Golf Course this morning. Muny has been an integral part of Austin for the past century, and it needs to be a key part of our future. In 1950, Muny became the first public golf course in the Southern United States to desegregate and is listed as a civil rights landmark. It’s an irreplaceable part of our parks system and home to hundreds of heritage trees. In 2019, as state senator, I authored Senate Bill 2553 creating the Save Historic Muny District in an effort to solve the long-standing uncertainty surrounding the future of this significant Austin treasure. I was proud to be there this morning and continue efforts to @savemuny.
