One of the best books I read in 2024 was Fire Weather. Wonderful writing.
Highly recommend to anyone trying to make sense of these awful LA fires. Makes you feel viscerally what it must be to encounter these fires in your own home or as a firefighter.

ALT Despite advances in development tooling, maintaining consistent local development environments remains a challenge for many teams. Onboarding new engineers often entails running commands or custom scripts that can fail unpredictably across different machines and result in inconsistencies. To solve this challenge, our teams have increasingly relied on Devbox. Devbox is a command-line tool that provides an approachable interface for creating reproducible, per-project local development environments, leveraging the Nix package manager without using virtual machines or containers. It has notably streamlined their onboarding workflow because once it has been configured for a codebase, it takes one CLI command (devbox shell) to reproduce the defined environment on a new device. Devbox supports shell hooks, custom scripts and devcontainer.json generation for integration with VSCode.

Let’s be clear: This is illegal and unconstitutional. The American people had voted. The courts had ruled. The Electoral College had met and voted. The Governor in every state had certified the results and sent a legal slate of electors to the Congress to be counted. The Vice President has no constitutional authority to tell states to submit alternative slates of electors because his candidate lost. That is tyranny. Our institutions held on Jan 6 because Mike Pence refused to violate his oath to the Constitution. Trump picked JD Vance because Vance will do whatever Trump wants, including violating the Constitution. They are both far too dangerous to serve. It’s our duty to stop them.

This is a huge sweeping generalization statement that implies no one can build secure digital hardware. Wrong.
@elonmusk 's view may apply to US n other places - where they use regular compute platforms to build Internet connected Voting machines.
But Indian EVMs are custom designed, secure and isolated from any network or media - No connectivity, no bluetooth, wifi, Internet. ie there is no way in. Factory programmed controllers that cannot be reprogrammed.
Electronic voting machines can be architected and built right as India has done. We wud be happy to run a tutorial Elon 😁
