From AI to quantum, the UK is where tech businesses start - and scale. 🇬🇧
At #LondonTechWeek, Minister for AI @KanishkaNarayan hears why: world-class talent, leading universities, and a pro-innovation approach to regulation.
🌐 From the World Wide Web to AlphaFold, Britain has always chosen to open up new technologies - not close them down.
Today we're backing the next generation of open-source AI builders with compute, mentoring and a seat at the table on AI development.
From AI to Quantum, we're investing nearly £4 billion in the frontier technologies where Britain leads the world.
One year into our Modern Industrial Strategy - and the results are already showing.
ALT Digital and Technology Sector Plan year one delivery including £4 billion committed until 2029/30 to the frontier techs by UKRI, £500 million investment in SovAI, up to £1 billion in a world-first commitment to procure large-scale quantum computers by early 2030s, £137 million investment by 2030 through our AI for Science Strategy, 10 million workers upskilled, 100,000 young people reached through TechFirst
. @KanishkaNarayan reporting live from London Tech Week…
From a £260m raise for @OQC_Tech to @nebiusai investing £1.7bn in UK AI, the deals are closing fast.

We're doubling compute access for the UK's most ambitious AI startups.
The response since launch has been remarkable. In just three months, we have received more than 200 applications requesting over 67 million GPU hours.
Founders here are building frontier AI models, scientific discovery platforms, next-generation compute infrastructure, cybersecurity technologies, drug discovery tools, and other innovations with the potential to shape the next decade of economic growth and national capability.
If Britain wants to be an AI maker, not an AI taker, we need to back our most promising startups with the compute they need to build at the frontier.
Today's announcement at @LDNTechWeek does exactly that.
🗣️ “The choice isn't between having this technology and not. It is a choice between shaping it to work for us, or being left at its mercy and whim. We are not powerless. We will act to make this powerful technology work for all and build a better future for all.”
@leicesterliz on @BBCr4today
Tech and AI can transform our economy, public services and lives.
But that depends on trust - protecting children online and supporting people as jobs evolve.
We are not powerless. We will act to build a future that works for all.
🗣️ “We can seize that growth and potential and jobs for the future.”
@leicesterliz talks to @BBCBreakfast on how the UK can harness the power of AI to drive forward progress in healthcare and public services, creating jobs and boosting the economy.
Using the power of tech and AI while keeping children safe online isn’t a trade-off — it’s one and the same.
We can unlock the benefits for healthcare and public services, while making sure future generations grow up safe and supported.
