The BMA has called off the unnecessary resident doctor strikes which were due to start on Monday 15 June. This is good news for patients, staff and the NHS. We'll work with the BMA over the coming days to finalise the details of the deal before it is put to their members.

What I am bringing to the role of Secretary of State for Health and Social Care is not a change of course, but a change of gear. I want to work with NHS staff across the country to build on progress, embrace innovation and deliver better care for patients.
