"American Pope" tells Robert Prevost's life story from Chicago to Chiclayo to everywhere in between. We've learned so much reporting it, and can't wait to share it in November.

Jill Biden says Joe Biden initially planned to serve just one term, then changed his mind.
She says she doesn't know why Kamala Harris lost, or whether a full campaign could have helped her.
She calls the summer '24 "a dark period in our lives."

Just talked to Steve Kroft. I asked him if he'd trust what airs on 60 Minutes going forward.
"No. Not like I have done in the past." Kroft said. "There has been a breach of trust."
We will have that interview on All Things Considered and Consider This tonight.
NEW: Doctors "checked" on Biden moments after his 2024 debate with Trump — a poor performance Jill Biden says made her wonder whether her husband was having a "stroke."

Jill Biden tells me Joe Biden was initially set on one term.
"Originally, he thought, you know, just like you're saying, 'I'm going to do four years and get out'...But then… Everybody kept saying, 'You've got to… The midterms were good. We've got to keep going.'"
The future of journalism? Credentialed members of the NYC press corps came to Luigi Mangione’s hearing today to support the defendant they’re purportedly reporting on and to promote jury nullification “to the most cucked and submissive population in all of human history”
One of my biggest questions was whether this would be entirely theoretical/theological, or whether Leo wanted to make it practical and engage directly with the tech world. This clearly points to the latter.
Pope Leo XIV’s first encyclical, Magnifica humanitas, on preserving the human person in the age of artificial intelligence, will be released on May 25. A presentation event with the Pope and various speakers is scheduled for the same day at the Vatican.

This is the case with so many other big topics right now, too - but the way intentionally or unintentionally inaccurate items about Leo can quickly infect the entire news ecosystem is pretty remarkable.
A lot of attention on May 8th as an important anniversary for Pope Leo.
Today is one, as well! May 11, 1963 was Robert Prevost's First Communion at St. Mary's in Chicago.
On this one-year anniversary: one of my favorite pics I came across as I worked on "American Pope": this selfie then-Bishop Prevost snapped with Francis and sent to a friend in Illinois when he was attending the training program for new bishops known as "Baby Bishop School."
One year ago today, from the rooftop of the Augustinianum. Crowds rush into St. Peter's Square after white smoke appears from the Sistine Chapel, to find out who has been elected pope. An exciting moment! Even more exciting when "Robert Francis Cardinal Prevost" was announced!
A reminder to our media friends that 100% of the Apollo material released today has been public for decades. The "shocking" audio "released" from Apollo 17 is literally in a Daft Punk song. The document below is from the Apollo 11 technical crew debriefing, made public in 1977.
Scott Simon built up over 1 million followers on Twitter/X as he authentically shared his life on the platform over the years.
X never responded - not once - to his requests for help after his account was hacked.

NEW: Pope Leo's brief comments to the press this evening --
“I have already spoken from the first moment ‘peace be with you.’ The mission of the Church is to preach the Gospel, to preach peace. If anyone wants to criticize me for proclaiming the Gospel, let them do so truthfully.
The Church has spoken out against all nuclear weapons for years, so there is no doubt about that”
