CA voted in LA to raise its Sales Tax. We loved how high the gas prices were along with the food prices so we went ahead and raised the Sales Tax. It happen late in the night when votes began to drop and it came with an urgency clause! What AB 1768 Does It authorizes Los Angeles County (and Contra Costa County) to exceed California’s statutory 2% cap on combined local transactions and use (sales) taxes. Specifically, it allows LA County to impose up to a 0.5% additional sales tax (via voter-approved measure), even if it pushes the total rate above the cap in some areas. The bill includes an urgency clause so it took effect immediately.
