As of 1 Jan 2026, Germany has removed public collection containers for small e-waste.
🔸 Why? Fire risks caused by improperly disposed batteries.
🔸 What’s changed? Small e-waste can now only be returned to retailers or recycling centres.

🔸 The trade-off:
While safety is improved, an important low-threshold collection option is lost. It remains to be seen if and how this will affect official collection rates.
