Hundreds of animals — from more than 160 horses to over 225 cats and dozens of other species — are at the center of a massive, multi-day rescue operation at a Julian animal sanctuary, where crews are working around the clock to evaluate, treat and relocate them.
“Our teams are continuing the complex work of evaluating, treating and moving animals off the property,” the San Diego Humane Society said. “While some animals appear healthy and stable, many were found suffering without adequate care and husbandry.”
The effort, involving multiple agencies and dozens of responders, is stretching resources as crews process new arrivals, conduct medical exams and transport animals to facilities across the region.
“Our absolute priority remains the health and safety of every animal on the property,” the agency said.
Officials say the operation could continue for several more days as teams work through the sheer number of animals discovered on the 40-acre site.
