Today, we remember the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we often take for granted and continues to inspire generations of Americans. As law enforcement officers, our members understand the meaning of service, duty, and sacrifice. On this Memorial Day, we stand alongside the families, friends, and communities honoring those who never made it home. May we always honor their legacy.

On this Peace Officers Memorial Day, we take time to reflect on the weight of this profession and those we’ve lost along the way. Today, we honor Deputies Hector Cuevas, Jr. and Andrew Nunez. Their legacy now lives alongside so many others who gave everything in service to their communities and today we also honor all of our fallen heroes. We stand with their families today. We remember the men behind the badge, the way they showed up for this job, and for each of us.

Today, Deputies Hector Cuevas, Jr. and Andrew Nunez are being formally enrolled on the California Peace Officer Memorial Wall. This is one of the hardest traditions we carry. One we never get used to. Their names are now etched alongside those who gave everything in this profession and today we also honor all of our fallen heroes. Today, we stand with their families. We remember who they were, how they served, and the impact they left on all of us.

Thank you to the more than 600 runners, families, and supporters gathered at the Sheriff's Academy for SEBA’s 4th Annual Honor Our Fallen & Families 5K. This year we honored Deputy Hector Cuevas, Jr. and Deputy Andrew Nuñez, who were both killed in the line of duty in 2025. We also thank Sheriff Shannon Dicus for speaking and participating in the run, and the Sheriff’s Athletic Federation for their partnership and for managing the on-course logistics that help make this event possible.
