Mothers are dying in childbirth in Nigeria. Leaving behind babies, husbands, futures. And most of these deaths are entirely preventable with the right care. Free antenatal care, delivery packs, medications, community sensitization, adolescent reproductive health education. This is how we are promoting safe motherhood and reducing maternal mortality — one mother at a time. National Safe Motherhood Day | Leaving No Mother Behind. Every 7 minutes, a mother in Nigeria dies from childbirth not because it was inevitable, but because quality antenatal care remains out of reach in rural communities. Universal access to ANC isn't a luxury. It's a right. As always, we stand for every rural mother who deserves better and we won't stop until she gets it. @DrJoeAbah #WorldHealthDay #StandWithScience #SecondsForGood #MaternalHealth

Yesterday in Tunga Maje. We met with women selected for both their need and what they've already proven they can do. Then we walked to the irrigation farm together. Their second harvest was waiting. This is what sustainable empowerment looks like. 💚 @DrJoeAbah #Secondsforgood #UNDPGEFSGP #UNDPInnovationCentre #LocalActionGlobalImpact #ClimateSmartAgriculture #WomenEmpowerment

She reported it to the police. They told her it was a family matter. She reported it to her family. They told her she didn't know how to manage her home. She is one woman. But she is not the only one. 🧵 @DrJoeAbah

This is why safety and maternal health are the same conversation. When a woman is safe, she works. When she works, she earns. When she earns, she can access healthcare — prenatal care, skilled delivery, postnatal support. Nigeria loses more mothers in childbirth than almost anywhere on earth. Safety is part of why.

We exist to close that gap. One community, one woman, one conversation at a time. The work continues. @undpnigeria @sgpnigeria #UNDPGEFSGP #UNDPInnovationCentre #LocalActionGlobalImpact #EndGBV #WomenEmpowerment
