A lot of times in the closing days of a presidential campaign, large accusations of impropriety surface. We have these examples ready at hand for one candidate, but the fact we don’t have them for the other is an indicator of high character and a career of service. Vote smart.

The current generation of AI models could remain unchanged for the next 10 years and we’d still be finding novel uses for them. Anyone thinking AI is a doomed because the models have reached some limit is missing the point (and also likely wrong).

I guess you can go home again. ⚡️ Thanks to @BrittJMartin for inviting me back to the @therubyonrails to talk about GitHub, AI, and my journey from developer to COO at @github. Had a total blast!

It’s not the first time this person has been in tech news, and also not the first time that 90% of the people at the same place wondered “who tf is that?” Try not to assume that everyone with the same employer are somehow bffs :) (shoutout to all my real bffs - you the best)

It’s fun that we all have learned to tolerate the capitalization of “Lol”, and that Apple has absolutely refused to do anything about it.

In case it’s not clear from my recent albeit sporadic tweets, I’ve been spending nearly all of my time working on developer tools (as always) with AI/LLMs. This, right now, is a phase shift for tooling that will change what it means to be a developer within the next decade.

It feels like AI is everywhere now, but it’s important to remember that this wasn’t a forgone conclusion. Even Copilot for a long time seemed like a parlor trick (maybe it still does?).. but the blockers NOW aren’t the quality of the LLMs.. but actually integrations / imagination

IMO huggingface.co represents a huge miss for GitHub (which I’m still a lifelong fan of). The focus should be on: * building a platform for model collaboration * providing an easy path for deploying alternative models to back Copilot

AI Coding Assistants are just getting started. As the models rapidly improve, we need to focus on: * helping people gain utility despite their constant mistakes * preparing tooling for a future where they have less shortcomings

Unsolicited advice: if you’re not looking at this space, you need to make a shift. This isn’t going away.

Most “revolutionary” technologies have many skeptics. It’s easy to put on a VR headset and deny that it’s good, or to not buy into a world where digital currency holds tangible value.. but oh boy is it hard to try out AI in 2023 and have those same feelings

We have so much to do, come work with us! 🎉
Also, if you're interested in exploring how to use LLMs to improve productivity, and you'd like to work with @seejohnrun, you should reach out! We're looking to grow the team at Jane Street that works on just that.

So then life goes on for a bit, and everyone is happy - until someone in a meeting somewhere is like “accounts should be able to have negative balances to represent that they’re overdrawn” >:(

If you’re interested in an example of what that might look like in a non-compiled language like Ruby - check out this gist: gist.github.com/seejohnrun/4…

People often think that a lot of these features are only accessible to users of compiled languages, and while it’s true we can’t have _all_ of the bells, we can have a lot of the whistles if we consider these as patterns instead of language features.
