Why is Utahโs Great Salt Lake split into pink and blue?
A railroad causeway divides the lake into two ecosystems:
๐ต The south arm receives fresh river water, supporting algae and brine shrimp.
๐ฉท The north arm is up to 10x saltier than the ocean, creating ideal conditions for pink microbes that turn the water vivid reds and purples.
And the colours change with the seasons ๐
