His name is John Mendoza Jr. He was an eighteen-year-old freshman at Texas State University, described by those who knew him as a “respectful young man who never gave anybody any problems.” John was killed by Brazoria County Sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Tippit on June 1st. The story started with Mendoza coming home from Texas State University for the summer. He was driving with friends when Tippit attempted to pull him over in Lake Jackson. Surveillance video captured the short pursuit after deputies said Mendoza didn't stop. It ended in John's parents' garage when Tippit shot him inside his car; Mendoza was unarmed.
