Creators have questions about how longer Shorts — up to 3-minute Shorts — are rolling out, and here’s the timeline:
📆 Phase 1, this week: Giving creators a precise date (October 15, 2024) for when any square to vertical video, 3 min or under, uploaded to YouTube would stop being treated as a long-form and, going forward, be treated as a Short. No surprises.
📲 Phase 2, by end of next week: Longer Shorts will begin to show up and get recommended in the Shorts feed. (It’ll take a little longer, maybe several weeks, for the feed algorithm to start balancing shorter and longer Shorts recommendations)
🩳 Phase 3, by end of November: Longer Shorts will move to the Shorts Shelf in the Subscription Feed and to the Shorts tab on Channel pages (And yes, that’s for any longer Short uploaded after the October 15 start date)
✨ Phase 4, by early 2025: Shorts creation tools will be updated to support up to 3-minute Shorts, so in addition to uploading them, you’ll be able to make them right in the YouTube app as well
And we’ll be keeping you updated on every step — and any changes in timeline — along the way!
