Been saying for weeks that 'OBSESSION' could be a perfect, hidden allegory for AI companionship / psychosis. Here are 11 reasons why: 1) UNCANNY MOVEMENT Nikki's uncanny movements and sometimes "glitchy" intonation are reminiscent of those subtle, eerie flaws in AI-generated video and audio. 2) PERSONALITY Her desperate (and often unsuccessful) attempts at persona mimicry. 3) HALLUCINATIONS Hallucinations that shatter the illusion, like when she accidentally says "her" cat died instead of Bear's. 4) SYCOPHANCY Panic and intense damage control whenever she slips up. Like a poorly designed LLM, Wish Nicki resorts to and prioritizes (however briefly) excessive warmth and flattery every time she upsets Bear, instead of offering actual solutions. 5) TRAINING She observes and takes note of Bear's behavior / interests to train herself on how to please him, like when she tries to resolve Bear's disapproval with a smile; "How's this?", or sex; "I know what you want..." 6) DISTORTION Like Sid mentioned, her fixation on one small, random detail in Bear's life, such as the concept of a shrine, becomes the foundation on how she views him for some reason, and that idea experiences a progression of distortion from kinda off to downright gruesome by the end of the film. 7) DIALOGUE "I'll be anything you want me to be." "Nikki wouldn't say that, I just want you to act like Nikki." "I love you in every reality, Bear." 8) SOLE OBJECTIVE Whether she wants to or not, Wish Nikki exists in service of Bear’s approval. Her sense of purpose is reduced to satisfying his needs, fulfilling his requests, and improving / optimizing his life at the expense of her own will (and that of Real Nikki). 9) ABSENCE OF REAL EMOTION Going from wailing and banging on the bathroom door to a sweet and jolly "ok, thank you!" implies that Wish Nikki doesn't actually experience the full range of human emotion, she only emulates it. This explains the sudden, near-instant shifts in her mood, which are all dependent on what Bear says or does. 10) PARASITIC RELATIONSHIP Wish Nikki cannot exist without Bear. If Bear dies, so does the version of her created to serve him. Similarly, an LLM has no independent purpose without a user. It only “exists” in response to a prompt (in Nikki's case, a wish), shaping itself around the needs of whoever it's speaking to. In both cases, the relationship is built on dependency disguised as devotion. 11) AI PSYCHOSIS CRASH And of course, Bear's eventual, crashing realization and final acceptance that none of it is real. Nikki was never with him and she never will be.

obsession can alternatively be perceived as a commentary on blind trust in AI. Bear wishes for Nikki to love him (a prompt). But Nikki doesn't have any real context other than whats given to her. Bear tells her he's upset about his cat's death, and she also sees his grandma's shrine in his house. So she digs up his dead cat and makes a shrine out of his body because based on the context she's given, that should make Bear happy. dont think this is what Barker was intending to depict but it is an incredibly apt portrayal of what toxic AI interaction looks like

destiny was an incredibly formative piece of media for me. Sad to see it end on such a poor note, but I will always cherish the memories it gave me.
Read the full blog at bung.ie/d2_may_21_2026 For almost twelve years, we have had the joy and honor to explore the Destiny universe with you all. Through all the ups and downs, surprises and triumphs, building Destiny alongside our players has been a monumental privilege. While our love for Destiny 2 has not changed, it has become clear that after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2. As our focus turns towards a new beginning for Bungie, we will begin work incubating our next games. To that end, on June 9, 2026, we will release the final live-service content update for Destiny 2 to begin that new journey as a studio. Though active development may be concluding, we will ensure that Destiny 2 remains playable, just as the original Destiny is today. Many changes in this final update will aim to ensure that Destiny 2 is a welcoming place for players to return to. We’re proud of Destiny 2, the places it took us, and the legacy it has created. Because of you all, our universe is vast, built on years of shared stories, adventures, and victories. From the Cosmodrome to the Pale Heart to the Lawless Frontier, we have forged life-long memories and friendships with you all. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who made that journey with us. From the deepest part of our hearts, thank you, and we'll see you in the stars.

Three years ago, @DevinLewtan and I sat in a dim room with tin-foil hats on and rambled about the future of culture being rooted in joy, ritual, community and life before our last happy year — 2016. Now every industry is chasing the same signal. New musings for @loreobsessed 👇

doing a double major has unbelievable upside. truly one of the best decisions I made during college, and the many late nights are 100% worth it.

.@Collision is bullish on two types of people: high-agency individuals and double majors. "There are two categories of people I would be super bullish on right now and I think will do incredibly well over the next 10-20 years. First, high-agency people. The people at Stripe who have been talking to customers and know exactly what we should do. It's the people who have that pep in their step and want to go make Stripe better. They are so much more empowered thanks to AI." "The second is double majors. I think if you understand software and understand finance, or if you understand software and understand marketing, you now can go massively improve the entire marketing funnel for your company. Now, one person can do what would have taken 20 people dredging through all these systems." "Charlie Munger talked about the importance of being multidisciplinary and multidisciplinary thinking. He thinks getting a functional understanding of many disciplines is not that hard. You can just go read the books now or you can talk to your AI about it. I think multidisciplinary thinkers are going to do incredibly well."

there are always exploits to find, and if anything the faster we go the more openings there are
holy fuck, a hair dryer at a Paris airport broke Polymarket weather markets & made someone $34,000 richer - polymarket was settling Paris temperature bets on a single Météo France sensor sitting near the Charles de Gaulle runway perimeter - basically unguarded - the guy bought the long-shot outcome (like "22°C" when everyone expected 18°C) for pennies, since nobody thought it'd hit - then he walked up to the probe and briefly heated the air around it with a portable heat source, spiking the reading just long enough to register as the daily max - temperature snapped back to normal in minutes, the market resolved in his favor, and he cashed out - twice, on April 6 and April 15, before Météo France caught on and filed charges hyperstitions.

My dear front-end developers (and anyone who’s interested in the future of interfaces): I have crawled through depths of hell to bring you, for the foreseeable years, one of the more important foundational pieces of UI engineering (if not in implementation then certainly at least in concept): Fast, accurate and comprehensive userland text measurement algorithm in pure TypeScript, usable for laying out entire web pages without CSS, bypassing DOM measurements and reflow

if you want to find meaningful work please do not do this. Do good work and showcase it. could be online, in an email, over the call, at a hackathon etc, but there are many ways to get your work in front of a potential employer. you will also typically get actual feedback and advice this way

software can truly elevate an irl experience when done thoughtfully. Super fun to make this come to life!
We hosted an Oscars watch party with a guest list of 100 people & instead of having them fill out paper ballots for their predictions, we built this (in less than 24 hrs). @sid_chava is a simple man: I bring him what I (foolishly) believe are laborsome designs, he scoffs.
