It’s really a shame that Joan’s topical songwriting flies under the radar because β€˜Diamonds and Rust’ is her most popular song. β€˜Song Of Bangladesh’ is so important yet so criminally undervalued, though the meaning still cuts deep today.

These very lyrics can also be applied to the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the colonization upon the Palestinians’ land. Such a beautiful song constantly overshadowed by her top hits.

From Al Grossman squeezing extra cash from TV producers to Joan Baez eating fruit, Dont Look Back is a Bob Dylan film, where the supporting characters steal the show. Listen to the latest episode of the Dylan Revisited podcast for a full revisit to this superb film. Links πŸ‘‡

I’ll conclude this thread by suggesting that everyone give β€˜Joan Baez: I Am a Noise’ more grace and compassion, and to take another chance on it. It is truly a masterpiece in itself and so beautiful despite the heavy topics. Enjoy! Thank you for reading.
