“These findings indicate clearly that women of color bring skills and talents to the craft of moviemaking that result in quality output,” Smith added. “Yet, they still receive the fewest opportunities to work behind the camera in top movies.

Didn’t do a recap last year, due to recovering from a car accident. Didn’t know if I’d be able to DP ever again, but 1.5 years later I’m back 100% & have continued to grow in both film & agencies. Grateful isn’t the word, but here’s to community, growth, & trusting yourself. ✨🥂

The documentary "High on the Hog" on Netflix is about how Black Americans created American cuisine. They talk about him extensively.
Happy Thanksgiving! Did you know that James Hemings, is the reason macaroni and cheese made it to America.   The Chef de cuisine was the first American to train as a chef in France. He was enslaved by Thomas Jefferson at 8. A THREAD!

Not a single woman cinematographer is surprised by that article. We experience it on set, we experience it in meetings, we experience it in the number of jobs we get passed on.

one of my favorite film production tidbits ever: the puppet was too heavy to move that fast in real time, so they decided to shoot at 12fps and speed it up to 24 later. Moranis had to perform these scenes at half-speed, and it comes out totally seamless!

Re-watched The Invitation (2015). It probably should be considered one of the greatest horror movies ever. A man and his girlfriend are invited to a dinner party hosted by his ex-wife and and attended by their old friends.

After directing my first feature let me tell you something… (almost) no movie is bad. And those indie films that are almost good but it feels like something in the story or film is missing — the missing piece is money.

It hasn't been widely reported, but Eva Longoria has a whole side business putting early (and sometimes late) money into independent features in development. Obviously it paid off spectacularly with the Wick franchise. She's one of the canniest businesswomen in Hollywood.
23 Oct 2024
Eva Longoria saved "John Wick" from shutting down by providing $6 million in funding. “We were less than a week out and we lost almost $6 million on a gap financing,” says director Chad Stahelski. “We were financing independently to get the bond, but one of the investors couldn’t raise the money in time. [Eva] came to the rescue and she provided the gap financing, literally less than 24 hours before we had to lock the doors on the movie and walk away. [A producer] took us out to dinner [after filming], and we were laughing about all the bullshit that happened, and he said, ‘By the way, funny story, you know who gap financed you? Eva Longoria.’ We were were like, ‘What!'” Read more here: variety.com/2024/film/news/e…
