Lewis Hamilton with Sky Sports Italy. Q: Are you a bit disappointed? You had no battery at the end of your lap, were you amazing in your performance, your car was amazing... "Well I'm not disappointed I mean I was 1 tenth (0.064) behind him..." Q: No I mean disappointed because I know you felt close to pole position... "I’m really happy honestly, I need to review the data because there’s always something you can gain here and there but as a team, first we have to thank all the team back at the factory for bringing these upgrades because its truly amazing to see how much they are innovating and how much we are evolving as a team and this makes a huge difference when we go on track. I felt it." "Obviously the Mercedes is super strong so beating them is not simple at all. Today we beat one of them and tomorrow we have to beat the other. It’s a tall order because they’ve won every race this year but not impossible. I think we will need an absolutely perfect performance from all of us tomorrow, the strategy, my driving, the start, the balance, the degradation, the tyre management, but yeah we’ve got to try and see if i can pull something special." Q: You and the team made a step forward in performance of the car, do you think this car will win this race or even other races? "This car will definitely win races I’m sure of it, for the development project we are taking, the direction that we are taking the synergy that we have and how hard we are working I’m sure at some point we will be battling for wins. I hope it’s tomorrow cause we were close. I think the Mercedes in general is quicker everywhere because they have something more in the race but I hope tomorrow in the race I can do something extra to help the team achieve a result." 🚨| Lewis Hamilton with Viaplay. Q: There were a lot of struggles last year. And now, it looks like you're on a roll. How do you explain that? "There's a lot packed into that. You'll have to wait for the documentary. I'll tell all (laughs)." [via @SirLewisLane]

"It's not easy battling two drivers from the same team. It's definitely a challenge. I think they can play with the strategy, they can really play with that, and that makes things difficult when we are alone, compared to when we are two teammates. I have to figure out how I play that. And whether or not we have the pace to keep up with them, if we have the rhythm to follow them, that's something we'll have to find out." F1 2026 || Barcelona

"From turn 4 onwards Hamilton had taken the lead compared to Russell, and that he increased the advantage up to turns 10, 11 and 12, which are usually fundamental indicators of the performance of the cars. Only the pass in the last two corners condemned the red number 44 to second position, with a level of available energy now insufficient to push, which allowed Russell to recover and cut the finish line right in extremis, surpassing Hamilton about 120 meters before the timing line according to our calculation (approximate)." Lewis Hamilton: "It will take a perfect job from all of us to fight [Mercedes] for a win." "Tyre management will be crucial. It always is here, particularly when the track is 50 degrees. On Friday we were just sliding around, the most I've ever felt here. And degradation was double what we anticipated. But the car is in a better place and I hope it means we have less degradation. I'm battling two Mercedes which will be harder on strategy." "It's a long way down to Turn One so we need a good start. Of all starts that's the one you need to get right, so we can get the car where it needs to be." [via NurPhoto]

"took a step forward when it mattered" EXACTLY
im sorry but this is one of the best qualifying sessions in a while simply because practice had kinda made a lot of people thing we're going to have that same cycle of a step back after lewis had built momentum. instead we saw step forward, a front row. incredibly positive signs.
