An extraordinary marine heatwave has developed off the east coast of Canada, with hundreds of thousands of square miles of ocean experiencing sea surface temperatures more than 5°C (9°F) above normal and max anomalies approaching 10°C (18°F) above normal. Thermal stress from this marine heatwave could have major impacts on marine life in the Northwest Atlantic.

The climate crisis is pushing global temperatures 'off the chart’. Unprecedented heat waves are hitting the Mediterranean Sea, a marine biodiversity hotspot (thanks to Posidonia 😉). 'Seagrasses in the Anthropocene' is the theme of the next #isbw15. See you all in Napoli!

📢 First data chapter from my PhD is out! We carried out field experiments to investigate the most appropriate methods to restore the #seagrass #𝑍𝑜𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑎 𝑚𝑢𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑟𝑖 in #Westernport AUS. doi.org/10.1111/rec.13902 Deets in thread! 1/5

This analogy hits the nail on the head. Academia is broken and surely the best and the brightest in it can come up with a better system? Or are we happy to keep up the exploitation so those at the top stay well-fed and watered? #AcademicTwitter #academiaisbroken

Once decimated by disease, eelgrass is now recovering after a decades-long restoration in Virginia. Since it's returned the water is clearer, wildlife has returned & carbon & nitrogen sequestration rates are back at levels seen in undisturbed ecosystems. bit.ly/2NR1kYL

Pretty sure that that's a #Seagrass meadow on the cover of the 2021 @ConservationOrg calendar. Is this the year we #showseagrasssomelove ? 😏

A green recovery for Singapore needs to be both climate and biodiversity inclusive. All too often green initiatives leave out the biodiversity factor; carbon neutral ≠ biodiversity neutral. #biodiversitymatters
Everyone is talking about a “green recovery”, and in Singapore, there’s lots of talk about jobs in the sustainable sector. In Sg, we have plans for a domestic carbon diet. But what about the carbon we export? More by @FogartyClimate & I in Insight today: straitstimes.com/singapore/e…

Why Fund Managers Started Worrying About Biodiversity: The destruction of the planet’s biodiversity poses huge economic risks. That realization is bringing biodiversity the same kind of attention among investors that has been building around climate. bloom.bg/2IYsSsv

My second PhD data chapter is published 🎉 🌱We looked at how herbivores (🐢🐟🦞) can structure a subtropical #seagrass meadow in the GBR 🐢We found that green turtles/dugongs were structuring the seagrass here and they had a big impact on the meadow 📰doi.org/10.1007/s12237-020-0…

That’s a shameful and petty response from someone so lauded. #diversitymatters

And while we are talking about representation... #diversitymatters
There has been talk on #Twitter if these numbers should be as pictured here or made relative to application number from each group. Ummm doesn’t matter they both show a #systemic problem. 😭 Remember you can’t apply without a #permanent or long #contract. #ARC #equity #diversity

This publication sure struck a nerve. Sure I had more male mentors in academic career, but there were SO FEW women in academia overall. Since then I’ve found that my female professional relationships are the ones I rely on to get sh*t done.
