I know Christine Gilbert. She was the Head Teacher of the school where I was Head of English. I have confidence in her integrity and her dedicated professionalism. I await a thorough, evidence based and balanced report into Ofsted’s response to the tragic death of Ruth Perry.

It is hard to meet any of this with unqualified enthusiasm as it smacks rather of the wrong person investigating the wrong questions, precisely to avoid finding out what is really wrong with the system.

Lately most conversations with leaders in NHS, schools, job centres & other frontline services end with a sense they’re being asked to do more than provide their basic service. Teachers are social workers. Doctors are teachers etc. A challenge but, properly coordinated, a huge opportunity to give targeted support.
