I'm finding that insurance is being used more and more as a way to add cost. When booking a car rental for holiday, the website directed us to car insurance, then when we arrived the rental firm told us it was not directly covering us and that we'd be liable for reclaiming...

Similar thing on rental property with insurance having encountered the use of superhog for the first time. You get a choice between expensive deposit and insurance but with deposit there's an admin fee, so you still pay whatever.
