Happy #WorldSleepDay2025! It’s already been a busy one, touring the UK’s finest BBC Radio stations, thanks @BBCRadioScot for starting the day right with some consideration of the wonders of sleep.
There’s much more to come today, hope I won’t be too tired for my inaugural later!
Thanks @bbc5live for today’s discussion about sleep and how to improve it, ahead of #WorldSleepDay2025 and the upcoming Spring clock changes.
It was fun to join the science segment with Leila Nathoo.
Headlines: routine, awareness, and preparation.
@BGULincoln
Nice to talk dreams and nightmares on the breakfast show @BBC_Cumbria this morning. They never fail to amaze.
The days are noticeably a bit longer now. Enjoy those sunrises and bring on Spring! 🌷

It’s dark. It’s January. But there are signs of the days lengthening and spring will soon be here. With it, World Sleep Day and, to coincide and celebrate, my inaugural. Details to follow soon but for now please save the date: Fri 14th March @5pm.
A reminder to start your day right with a dose of fantastic light. Autumn/Winter sunrises are the best, well worth getting up early for, although Betsy here chose to stare at the wall instead.
Looking forward to supporting The Sleep Charity’s (Lincs Sleep Hub) webinar @6pm: stress vs sleep.
I’ll talk about that poor sleep-anxiety cycle and, crucially, what to do about it.
Aimed at supporting adult carers, but open to anyone. All welcome:

Seriously, these Sleep Charity folk are just marvellous, such a joy to work with. Very informative and, above all, supportive. The webinar will soon be available online, but do sign up for others in the series. It will be an hour well spent!

Thanks @BBCRadioLincs for inviting me to discuss the impact of the clock changes yesterday and our @BritishSleepSoc statement:

Yes darker nights now but enjoy the dose of morning sunlight to start the day right. Sun soon about to appear in Lincs!
🤩 🌅
Also, advance notice with registration details to follow: another great webinar hosted by @TheSleepCharity’s Lincolnshire Sleep Hub (with a little bit of me in there too):
“A Cheat's Guide to a Good Night's Sleep - stress vs sleep!”
6-7pm on Monday 25th November.
😁
Are you a carer? Sleep supporter? Someone who gets up in the night to go to the toilet? (Most adults, then).
We recommend @TheSleepCharity Lincs Sleep Hub webinar:
A Cheat’s Guide to a Good Night’s Sleep – managing your bladder!
Wed 13th Nov, 6-7pm.

About to head home from a great day @UniOfYork at the @SLAMlabyork Sleep Across Development event. Back to back great talks and lots of ideas - thanks @emmacsullivan_ for hosting.
A bit of multi-tasking going on amidst the reactions to the @BritishSleepSoc statement calling for permanent daylight standard time (ie no more clock changes)! 😁
onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…
The British Sleep Society recommends abolishing the twice-yearly clock change and reinstating Standard Time throughout the year for better sleep and circadian health. 🕰️

Welcome back, Psychology students @PsychBGU. We’re kicking off the semester with three hours of asking, “what is consciousness?” - they’re in deep now! Already thoroughly enjoying the conversations and seeing how our views change over the next 12 weeks.
The International Association for the Study of Dreams annual conference will be entirely virtual next June (meaning hurray, I can go)! Time to start thinking about presentations etc already: iasdconferences.org/2025/
