Today, we remember the men who crossed the Channel and stepped into the mouth of hell so that future generations might live in freedom.
On the beaches of Normandy, courage overcame fear, duty overcame comfort, and sacrifice overcame tyranny.
Many never came home. Many lie still beneath foreign soil. Yet because they stood firm, Europe was liberated, and the light of freedom endured.
As the years pass and their number grows fewer, our gratitude must grow greater.
We will remember them.
We will honour them.
And we will strive to be worthy of the inheritance they purchased at such terrible cost.
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
John 15:13
