My main takeaway from voting in the DC elections this time around is that I was absolutely right to vote against ranked choice voting as a ballot initiative. The process is now 7000% more confusing.

Fahd Abu Haikal was driving through Hebron last week when he spotted a group of Israeli soldiers. He began to slow down, but one of the soldiers raised his rifle & opened fire. One bullet pierced the windshield, striking his son, Sam, in the head. He was just 7 months old -- the 13th child to be killed by Israeli security forces in the West Bank so far this year. The IDF says it is investigating the shooting.

It’s a bummer this is so politicized because I love state and county fairs. The Erie County Fair (biggest one in NY) was a highlight of the summer when I was in high school.
News: Six states plan to sit out the Great American State Fair. At least three others remain uncommitted two weeks before the fair opens on the National Mall. Organizers say "all states and territories will be represented" but who will be repping them isn't final. Reporting w/ @MonninJenna and @torriestorie. Full story šŸ”—ā¬‡ļø

I don’t think I ā€œhave it allā€ — I think trying for that just leaves women burned out and disappointed. But work from home and a workplace that was partially founded to do better by moms in the journalism industry have meant I can be so much more present for my daughter.

It isn’t just the wfh — It’s also the parental leave. I had six months, at 100% salary, to recover and bond with my daughter after she was born. Most companies and orgs in the US don’t do anything like that. I think our management should brag about it more.

The 19th is a GOATed workplace for moms in the journalism industry and I wish other outlets would get on our level.

This is a live crowdsourced map of every DC children's pool. Open or closed according to the schedule and user reports. If you go to the pool and see that it's closed, one tap from you will save the next family the wasted trip. (2/3) pools.districtjosh.com/

We spent nine months following Saleh, going through his photos, Whatsapps and bank transfers to share the toll of the war in Gaza on his family. Then we went to Israel to investigate profit and profiteering in trade into Gaza, for @NYTmag @emilykassie nytimes.com/interactive/2026…

I don’t really know what to do about people thinking having children is an expensive hobby, rather than a contribution to the society we all live in together.

I’ll never forget the time an interviewer asked Johnny Knoxville about the homoerotic subtext in Jackass and he got mad at them for calling it subtext.
