Respecting Peter Singer's utilitarian philosophy so much that you give $1 million to..... a successful Princeton professor?

Post call from 28 hour call, trying to pick up my insulin from CVS. $780 for 3 vials of insulin. Last time my insurance paid for the entirety of it, but the tech refused to re run it through insurance. I left because I was too tired to fight. This is healthcare in America.

The hardest part of pediatrics boards isn't getting every milestones question wrong (all of them), it's getting the brain death and abuse questions right and remembering the cases that taught you.

More than just a criticism of this moment, this builds to a conclusion we all need displayed on a banner in the capitol

If only there were some way to raise the minimum age enough to stop children from getting married
17 Aug 2021
A bill in North Carolina aims to raise the minimum marriage age from 14 to 16 and limit the age difference between 16-year-olds and their spouse to 4 years. The state has a reputation as a go-to place for child brides. n.pr/3iS4g4v

We need to make quality, affordable child care and early learning available for all of our babies—and we need to raise wages for all of our child care workers and preschool teachers, so they can be paid like the professionals they are. I’m in this fight all the way.

If the advocates giving this drug a pass because "it's Alzheimer's" are the same ones that hammered Gilead on Sovaldi ... that says something about how elites view disease burden. Remember, Sovaldi\Harvoni *worked* and targeted an underserved population and was still attacked.
I generally agree with the "this hasn't yet sunk in" comment but wow this is an interesting read regarding how some groups initially seem ok with giving this a pass because it's Alzheimer's. statnews.com/2021/06/08/desp…

The #AmericanRescuePlan is one of the most important pieces of legislation I’ve ever voted for, in no small part because of the historic expansion of the Child Tax Credit.

I love this @AnnieLowrey jeremiad against the term "low-skill jobs." Those jobs aren't low-skill. They're low-wage, and calling them low-skill is a way of blaming often exploited workers for inequality and unemployment. theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv…

Before protests. After protests. During protests. Mural and panels won’t fix this. Kente cloth and kneeling wing either. We have to revoke the police officer bill of rights, end qualified immunity, invest in the wellness of communities as a start. It’s human rights abuse.

Working in any pediatrics clinic will show you that robust universal childcare would radically transform the economic and educational prospects of so many families, at a tiny fraction of the cost of free college. Should be a top priority everywhere.
