It is a small but tangible example of archaeological evidence aligning with and corroborating details preserved in the hadith tradition and it won’t be the last of its kind. The inscription translates as follows: “I am al-Walīd, the freedman of ʿAbdullāh ibn Jaʿfar, son of Jaʿfar the Two-Winged. May my Lord forgive me and have mercy on me.”

Jerusalem, of course, was built by the Canaanites, not the Jews. And it hasn't been the capital of the Jewish people for 3,000 years. That is ahistorical nonsense. Jerusalem was the capital of the Davidic kingdom of Israel, which barely lasted 100 years (if it existed at all), and of the subsequent Kingdom of Judah, which lasted about 340 years. It was restored as the capital of the Persian province of Yehuda, and was later the capital of the Hasmonean kingdom, which lasted about 100 years. In total, therefore, Jerusalem was the capital of the Jewish people for less than 1,000 years before the Romans sacked it. It is plain ridiculous to claim it remained "the capital of the Jewish people" during the ensuing 2,000 years.
