And generally with one animating personal mission: We can't build great technology without putting the best of ourselves, as humans, into that technology. And this must be intentional -- otherwise, technology will reflect the worst of us.

📢 Hey, Twitter fam.
I've been approached to lend my expertise to a few projects recently and some enquires have come directly from this platform.
So, I've made up my mind to focus my energies this summer on consultancy work.
Our convos about the future of newsrooms must acknowledge that. This issue is not black and white.
The question we should be asking is not whether working in person in a newsroom has value — of course it does! — but whether it has value for everyone, every day, all the time.
Outstanding explanation and background of Twitter Curation's value and impact, particularly w/r/t misinfo & disinfo. The team was doing groundbreaking work and was absolutely ahead of the curve.
Watching the BBC conference #TIN23 I’m really struck by the incredible work being done by people across news organisations globally and also that at Twitter we had also been doing this work for years.

About to hear @PartnershipAI talk “AI in Newsrooms: What’s the Impact on Journalism?” moderated by @DaliaMHashim, with @aimeetwoee of AP, @laura_ellis of BBC and @smydrad ex-Twitter. This #SXSW talk is packed!
@smydrad: Like data journalism and social media, AI will similarly transform newsrooms. Doesn’t mean editorial/content mindset is devalued; to the contrary, new technology prompts us to move to higher-order problems. A journey of “leveling up” if the culture is right.
To mix-in some smiles & joy amidst our tears, I'll share this anecdote.
In 2019, Mandy was running Mahoning Matters under sponsorship from the Google News Initiative. I'm not entirely clear of the professional lines in that relationship, but suffice to say...
I told you this during an ONA dinner once & it's still true: When I grow up, I want to be more like you. You were unflappable, confident, whip-smart & always put people at the center of your work. You inspired so many of us to do the same.
RIP Mandy.

I still smile every time I think of that moment.
Mandy knew who she was and she knew that what she did mattered in ways that can't be counted on a chart. What a hero.
