Hey everyone, I'm still here. I've been busy as hell with my PhD program (it's the last year!), and I haven't had energy to do much on social media. But I think this election is the impetus I've needed to finally make the jump to bluesky. Find me on there if you'd like!

I can't promise I'll be active yet — this is a REALLY rough semester and I'm just trying to pass my classes, write my dissertation, and make it across the finish line. But I miss talking math with people, and I hope to do more of that in the future in a non-toxic environment.

Kyle Burke's "CGT Crash Course" was really cool. I might have to borrow some of these explanations when I'm teaching CGT to a new group of students. Learned a new game too — Arc Kayles!

Just got done with "Octal Games: Old and New" by Mike Fisher! Really cool stuff — interesting connections to the Fibonacci sequence, continued fractions, and turning irrational numbers into games!

Wonder how it changes strategy ... do the original strategy-stealing arguments for games like this apply anymore when pieces can disappear? Can the second player actually win under optimal play?

Me:
ALT A physicist, holds a piece of paper with "dy/dx" written on it. A gagged mathematician looks on in abject horror.
ALT Doing the unthinkable, the physicist tears apart the piece of paper into two separate halves saying "dy" and "dx", cackling with glee.
