What's the deal with how some 19th c. sources drop the "c" or "ac" in McGuire, MacPhee, etc., and instead write "M'guire"? A standard contraction (like Wm. for William), or something more, like to hide Irishness? Did people do this in manuscript? Example: catalog.mwa.org/vwebv/holdin…
